With over 700,000 followers across her social media channels @emilywelchstyle, Emily is a self-described Christmas obsessive who loves to share her holiday decorating and DIY tips.

And this festive season, she has partnered with Happilynews.com - the team behind Smileworthy - to give you her expert advice on achieving the perfect cozy interior. So whether you're a seasoned decorator or a novice, Emily's tips will help you create a festive atmosphere that everyone will love.

Tip #1: Lots of lights!

“A big part of Cozy are lights. Like twinkle lights, or I really like tapered candles.” And especially flameless candles. “I really like how it looks at night like from the outside of your house, but it also just adds some extra like ambience of the flickering candle without it being a fire hazard.” 

Tip #2: Keep the colors classic! 

As a child of the 90s, she recommends using the likes of reds and burgundies where possible, creating a warm, cozy feeling of nostalgia that wouldn't look out of place in a Home Alone or Nancy Meyers movie.  

“Don't mess with Christmas, you know, keep it to your red and green and burgundy and gold! This year, we moved into our 100-year-old home and I felt like it really deserved that like classic 90s Christmas. It’s just that vibe that makes people feel cozy because it brings back childhood memories and nostalgia for them.”

Tip #3: Add different textures 

When it comes to textures, Emily says the likes of velvets and wools will always be associated with a cozy Christmas – as are twinkle lights. 

“Like adding in knits and velvet and metal and making sure you're mixing those textures to create like a cozy vibe, especially knits and velvets.”
